Dad:
They changed the Blogger interface, so I think you tried to post a message, but it's blank.
Try again, OK?

Dad:
Your problem may be that you need to hit the 'Refresh' button in your browser.
If you check valtam.blogspot.com at 11:00 a.m., then go over to blogger.com, log in (if needed) and Post & Publish at 11:01 a.m., and finally check valtam.blogspot.com again at 11:02 a.m., your browser will show you the same page it loaded at 11:00 a.m., not the updated page.
So, try hitting 'Refresh!'

I'm glad you're sticking with this new form of communications, Dad.
To get a feel for blogs, go look at instapundit.com or andrewsullivan.com (the latter runs off of blogger.com, just like we do!)

Dad:
You can absolutely type your entry to the blog in, for example, Microsoft Word or Notepad, make sure it's perfect, and then copy it into the 'New post' section of the blog.
Once you're happy with your text, select it all (highlighting it either by clicking and dragging, or by clicking in the document and hitting CTRL-A (for "all"), copy it, and then click in the 'New post' section and paste the text.
Once you see the text, hit 'Post & Publish.'

I really think we can make this thing work, and we'll all be more responsive to this medium than to emails.

JP & H, your thoughts are welcome!

Dad!
Nice first post!
Here is what you need to bookmark in your Favorites:
www.blogger.com
Once you click on the Favorite/bookmark, you'll see either a place to log in, or a link to this blog on the right side of the first page of www.blogger.com.
If you have to log in, do so; in any case, click on the Valtam "Family Talk" link and you'll see the split screen. The bottom half is the current state of the blog and the top half is the 'New Post' pane.
Always remember to hit 'Post & Publish.'

And what bad language? Do you mean 'snot nosed' in JP's post? Or do you mean grammar? If the latter, relax and let the creative juices of us kids flow. If this thing really takes off, we can worry about that. I have the ability to edit already-published posts, and can give any of you that ability, if you feel the need.
[Update: I found a '4-letter word' in my reproduction of JP's email; I replaced the vowel with a *.]

But like I said, we all 4 are on the blog and I honestly do think we'll stay more abreast of each other this way.

My only news is that I worked my 2nd 12-hour day in a row and there are more to come. The atmosphere at work is really good, so it's fun.

Alright, everyone! Keep up the good posting!

I spent Sunday afternoon with H and three of her friends. They came into Penn Station, we took a walk around Times Square and the West Village and then had lunch at Veg City, the vegetarian/vegan diner on 14th Street.
Then, we went over to Webster Hall in the East Village so they could attend their concert extravaganza "Zen," which lasted from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. I had to get up very early on Monday morning (today) to finish up an assignment at work, and H had a backpack which I thought would be a pain to worry about during the concert. So, I volunteered to take her bag home with me and meet her early Monday morning.
H called me at 4:04 a.m., I was showed and dressed and met her in a diner at 5 a.m., walked the 4 of them toward Penn Station, and was in to work at 5:55 a.m., admittedly an extremely early hour for me.
A fun time. On Sunday, we stopped by H's favorite store, the 8th Street Lab and I bought her a couple pairs of baggy pants she picked out, for her birthday last week.

I'm going to Point Pleasant on the Jersey Shore this weekend, with good ol' Troy. Since things are heating up for me at work right now (the judge gave us a deadline in early August), I won't be able to get away on weekends for the rest of the summer, maybe. Perhaps toward the end of August.

Yins should post to the blog!

J emailed me the following today:
He's talking about the Robot Balloon Escapes in Britain

so pretty soon some jackasses in Britain are gonna let
loose like this humanoid robot that they designed to,
say, weave rope out of flax but they just happened to
give it superior intelligence and accidentally
downloaded like martial arts programs and detailed
manuals on the miriad ways to kill humans and grind
their bones and just happened to let it loose close to
a couple of airports because the stupid f*ckers
couldn't hold on to the restraining ropes, which had
conveniently been made by the robot and were,
supposedly, unbreakable and highly griffbar. god bless
sentient robot balloons. like the limerick? ... see
below

Sweet. JP: Go to www.blogger.com (not blogspot) and you can click on the list of blogs on the right so that you can post.
Or you can go to valtam.blogspot.com and scroll to the bottom and click on the Blogger button.

The important thing is to remember to hit "Post & Publish" so that your post shows up on the blog. You forgot to do it in your second post...

But I'm glad you guys are using this. I'll call Dad and try again to get him on board.

H: tell the story about giving Dad the cats. I want to hear about them...

Dad:
I'd love to hear about your new cats. Tell the whole story, from when H (I assume) gave them to you, to who named them, to whether they'll be indoor or outdoor cats.
It would be the first real entry in this blog!

Family:
The way for you to post messages is to go to blogger.com and create an account. The email you got about valtam.blogspot.com has a link and it tells you how to post messages to valtam.blogspot.com (see the bottom of the webpage you are linked to when you click on the link in the email).
Let's try it out!
(And, I think we should keep out our full names, at least in this test phase... Yes, I'm paranoid and all that, but better safe than sorry.)
